For example, Oskar's dad sends him our on little missions to find clues, and allows Oscar to go on these at randoms times, like at 11 at night. His Grandma and Grandpa met in a strange way too. His Grandpa was very depressed when he met Oskar's grandmother, and Oskar's grandmother asks him to marry her pretty randomly. Oskar's mom later allows him to go door to door stranger's houses, which is somehting most parents don't do.
